Hey GlobeMed!
This summer, I am working in the Shalem Lab in the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia at the Perelman Center for Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics! Currently, I am investigating molecular and cellular mechanisms in the development of neurodegenerative disorders, specifically protein quality control, RNA interactions, and gene expression, utilizing CRISPR-Cas9 knockout screens and deep genomic analysis. My main project is the use of CRISPR to determine upstream regulators for the Huntington's disease gene in hopes of creating a therapeutic intervention! I absolutely love working with CRISPR due to its emerging potential.

Although it sounds super complex, I also have a lot of down time to explore the city! Summer in Philly is a great time to take a step back from on campus life and immerse yourself in the city. I’ve been to Phillies games, Pat’s/Geno’s cheesesteaks, Reading Terminal Market, and more! I’m also taking an online music course, which is a great break from science. It’s only early June, so I have a few more months to keep exploring!
